VR Motor Assembly
The goal of this project was to plan, design, and create a virtual reality training program which could help improve the training program for worker that will be assembling electric motors. The team was was two, including me, and the project had to be complete in about two and half months. Once complete we had to teach the current trainers how to use it and how they can use it to teach new workers. We also had to give a presentation to the assembly floor staff and the company higher ups.
The training program has several different difficulty settings that change how much instruction and guidance is provided when assembling the motor.
My personal contribution to this project was significant and is a bit hard to separate. One system I spent a long time working on was the connection system for assembling the motors. We used joints which we assigned to every piece. When brought near each other the joints would snap together to form one larger object. This provided an impressive amount of bugs and complications, many surrounding the hit boxes and the VR grabbing system. Since we were a two person team we worked very closely together and almost every aspect of this project was worked on by both of us heavily. Feel free to ask me about it if you’d like to know more.
The Image below is one of the info panels before a training section. In this section the user is tasked with identifying each of the parts and placing them in the correct bucket. Some parts like screws or small washers are enlarged to make this a bit easier. The user can re try these training levels as many times as they wish if they are not confident.
